Academic services

The backbone of any educational institution is the academic arm. Zahra Nanono Girls College aims to set high educational standard for women in Kano, Nigeria and West Africa, inculcating a sense of moral self discipline in the path of Islam. Producing highly knowledgeable women who can excel in domestics and public affairs. We made Qur’an a compulsory subject to all students, pay much more emphasis on sciences and information Technology and also provide a range of instructions, resources, support, information and tools to assist students through our competent and experienced teachers to attain high level of academic excellence. We have the Curriculum Teaching and Learning Group (CTL Group) which is the academic branch of the school headed by the Principal and powered by the Senior Advisory Consultant (SAC). CTL Group meets policy requirements, management requests, academic planning, guidelines for effective curriculum delivery and evaluation of the program.

Heath care

Good health is no doubt a pre requisite to Sound education, in this line the college employed a nurse to work directly with the welfare officer and physical and health education department to train the students on personal hygiene and take care of their health issues. A clinic is also provided for the students. Moreover, the college equally maintains a retainer ship with Saudat clinic for other medical services which requires the attention of specialists. Other hospitals that the college patronizes include Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), GetWell women and children hospital and Green field clinic.

Boarding services

The philosophy of the proprietress that education deals with all round development of a child, from the home to school, in the classroom and outside the classroom and from curriculum to non curriculum activities brought the issue of boarding. These include her desire to merge Tahfeez with modern education. In the year 2004 therefore the boarding facilities became a reality as Khadija house was provided with a total capacity of 128 beds spaces and accommodations for boarding staff as well as befitting kitchen. Interestingly, the Students of the College from JSS 1 to SS 3 started boarding in the year 2005. The boarding for the students was optional at that time. However, following the completion of Aisha house in 1998 all the students became boarders in the year 1999. The total bed spaces available for boarders increased to 300. The school has total of 62 befitting toilets, laundry in all the dormitories, ironing spots, ablution taps, two boreholes to serve the water needs of the college and three standby generators among other facilities.

Tahfeez program

It is the policy of Zahra Nanono Girls College to Produce a highly knowledgeable women with high sense of religious and moral discipline. In this regard we made Qur’an a compulsory subject in the college as the only refuge offering spiritual elevation and peace of mind to the college community. In order to achieve the lofty objective the college provided a befitting mosque with a total capacity of accommodating 500 – 600 worshipers at a time in upper stairs and downstairs . An Imam was employed who leads the 5 daily prayers and offers nasiha. He also alongside other Qur’anic teachers leads the Qur’anic recitation after Subhi prayer and between Magrib and Isha every day. The students recite the whole of the Qur’an 10 time every Thursday at the mosque popularly known as “Sauka”. It is equally compulsory for each student of the college to read over the Holy Qur’an at least once during her stay in the college. This is in addition to Tahfeez program.

Sports and recreational facilities

Sports and recreational activities are essential ingredients in children health and development according to educationist. The college therefore provided basket ball, volley ball, badminton courts and table tennis in addition to the physical and health education teacher to guide the students.
